Welcome to our first responder page. We have been providing this service for about 8 years. We started providing this service due to an overabundance of EMS calls in our community. At the time we started, Greenwood EMS was not staffed to handle the amount of calls in such a rural area. Since then, they have upgraded their services considerably and we now only assist them in times of system stress. Currently we operate on a BLS level even though we have two paramedics, an intermediate, and a basic. We also have six first responders. We hope in the future to be able to have a DHEC first response license so we can provide ALS care as well.
Our rescue truck has all BLS equipment needed to handle any emergency, including oxygen. Each responder also has a personal BLS bag to ensure we can provide assistance even in the absence of our truck. We also have a complete Jaws of Life on our rescue unit. We currently have 95% of our total members certified in vehicle extrication. In addition, we have 3, 9, & 20 ton airbags and 15, 23, & 35 inch rams. We also carry a generator and portable lights for use on night scenes.( Which seem to be all of them)
Most of our members have at one time or another received the Hurst Green Cross award. At this time, we have one of only six sets of jaws in the county and we have the second largest. We are always trying to upgrade our unit to provide a much better level of care.
